Picture Day Tips for Preschool Parents in Charlotte, Concord & Gastonia
Preschool picture day is one of those sweet milestones—adorable outfits, toothy grins (or goofy ones), and the chance to freeze a little moment in time. If you're a parent in the Charlotte, Concord, Gastonia, or Salisbury areas, here are a few easy ways to make picture day stress-free and full of smiles.
1. Keep it Comfy
Yes, picture day is special—but your child’s comfort matters more than the perfect outfit. Choose something they feel good in (bonus points if it doesn’t wrinkle easily). Our team watches to make sure each student is “Head to Toe, Ready to Go” with shoes tied, noses clean and hairbows adjusted just so.
2. Practice “Happy Faces” at Home
Make it a game: silly faces, serious faces, and of course—smiling ones! A little role play can help shy kiddos warm up to the idea of a camera on the big day. Let them know our photographers come to be silly and have fun- maybe they can remember a silly joke the photographer shares and tell you once they come home that day.
3. Skip the Clothing Battles
If your preschooler doesn’t love hair bows, a certain pair of shoes, or that collar that scratches their neck, skip the battle! A clean, simple style they’re used to will always photograph better than a look they’re fussing with- We send you a What to Wear Guide a week before picture day to help you make final decisions on what to wear. This email also gives you a sneak peek at this season’s picture day set. We love seeing what makes each kiddo feel their best and is unique to them!
4. Don’t Worry About the Cheese
Professional photographers (like the ones at Camerakidz!) know how to capture natural expressions. We may look ridiculous when we do what we do but it brings the best smiles. You don’t need to coach your child to smile a certain way—authentic moments are the goal. It’s literally our catch phrase- #becausepicturesshouldmakeyousmile
5. Double Check the Date
This one’s easy to overlook! Picture day sometimes sneaks up on busy families, so mark your calendar early. Setting a reminder for the day before picture day so you can lay out the clothes, shoes and accessories the night before. Mornings are busy enough without the worry of where the shoes for picture day are. They are probably hiding with that missing uniform from t-ball….

NC Preschool Pictures : Celebrating 2023 Grads!
A preschool career is hardly complete without putting on the fancy graduation gown and the silly hat and documenting such a momentous occasion! Spring picture day almost always includes a photo session for our favorite graduating students. It most certainly includes questions about why they are holding a rolled up piece of paper with no words on it….
If you need more joy in your days, try hanging out with 4, 5, and 6 year olds and discussing their plans for after preschool graduation. You can’t help but smile and cheer them on!

Fall picture season is in full swing!
The Fall picture season is in full swing as we continue to serve schools in the Charlotte/Greensboro and Richmond areas! We are excited to see the Fall colors changing along with all the Littles as they continue to grow each school year!
As we say goodbye...
We here at CameraKidz are more like family than coworkers. We not only work together but laugh and serve together. It was important to Joe McCutcheon to make everyone feel welcome and a part of his family. Joe started CameraKidz 20+ years ago with a camera and a plan and has helped so many people as he made his way through life serving, loving and laughing.
Joe loved so many things—family, friends, and his garden which he called “The Shady Rest”. Joe also loved serving the Lord. One of the many things he held close to his heart was the service he performed in El Salvador. Many of our CameraKidz schools helped with collecting children’s shoes and clothing for his ministry. Joe was more like a brother than a boss. Everyone who was blessed to know him loved him.
Our hearts are broken as we say goodbye to our friend and boss. We know he will live on in each of our hearts as we continue to serve our schools and know he is at peace tending to The Shady Rest in heaven.
All of us at CameraKidz send our thoughts, prayers and strength to his sweet family during this difficult time.
Thank you for your amazing example. We love you and will miss you, Papa Joe.
Our Commitment to Safety
As schools and photo sessions resume during this challenging time, Camerakidz is taking full measures to ensure the health and security of our clients. We are employing the required safety precautions such as: wearing face masks, maintaining social distance, and hand sanitizing.
We will respect the concerns of the staff and parents of the child development centers, daycares, and preschools and will adapt to any of their additional requirements and recommendations.
Additionally, outdoor photography and sessions are our specialty and a very good option for school pictures during this new era of COVID-19 circumstances.
Treasured Forever
For more than 30 years I have been involved in the photo business, specifically in the area of preschool photography. Camerakidz, the company I started in 2002, is versatile in our approach as we incorporate traditional, studio-style photography in addition to going outside for natural light pictures.
Recently, I’ve wondered if the market for preschool photography would continue given the advent of cell phones and mirrorless cameras. Mobile phones, in particular, take such good pictures, store thousands of them and are becoming more affordable. Because of this, we know that not nearly as many of our pictures will end up hanging on the wall or be displayed on the desk at work.
But upon further reflection, I realize that sentimentality and the desire to hold on to our cherished memories will never go away no matter the technological advances. The pictures that we take of children at a young age will become a treasured keepsake even if they've been put in a drawer.
At Camerakidz, we would love the opportunity to be a part of your story by helping you capture moments from the most important times in your child’s life. It would be an honor and privilege to give you something that you will treasure forever.
